RC transfer and insurance in Uttar Pradesh: the step-by-step version

5 August 2026 · 6 min read

Ownership only changes when the RC changes. Until then, every challan and every accident is legally still the seller's problem — so treat this as the most important part of the deal.

You need Forms 29 and 30 signed by both parties, the original RC, valid insurance, a PUC certificate, address and identity proof, and passport photographs. If the car carries a loan, add the bank's NOC and Form 35.

Buying a car registered outside Lucknow means an NOC from its original RTO first. Plan for extra weeks when that applies.

Insurance must be transferred within 14 days of the sale. Miss it and a claim can be rejected outright, even though the policy looks active.

In practice, a clean Lucknow-to-Lucknow transfer takes about three weeks. Anything faster is luck; anything slower usually means a missing signature.

Our team can coordinate the paperwork and keep both buyer and seller informed while the transfer is processed.
