Buying a used car in Lucknow: the honest 2026 checklist
24 August 2026 · 6 min read
Lucknow's used car market is friendly, chaotic and full of tea. That is charming until you are three cups in and about to pay for a car whose RC is still in someone's uncle's name.
Start with paperwork. Ask for the original RC, valid insurance, PUC, and the service history booklet. Run the registration number through the Parivahan portal for pending challans — a two-minute check that saves months of paperwork later.
Next, check flood history. Cars from heavy-monsoon years can carry silt in the spare wheel well and rust under the carpet. Lift the boot mat, smell the cabin with the AC off, and look at the seatbelt webbing right at the bottom of the reel.
Then the mechanical bit: cold start the engine, listen for tappet noise, check for uneven tyre wear, and drive over one honest Lucknow speed breaker to hear the suspension talk.
And the forgotten question: 'Why are you selling it?' The answer, and how quickly it arrives, tells you more than any brochure.
Or you skip all of it, buy a 200-point inspected car from us, and spend the saved afternoon at Tunday's instead.
